Business Development (sales) positions serve as an entry point to many Fortune 500 companies and provide an excellent start to move into other positions including marketing, branding, market research, category management and others. In tougher economies, many companies continue to recruit and hire sales professionals while cutting back on other roles. Total compensation for sales positions can start at over $60,000 for entry level DePaul students.

What is category management?
Category Management interprets strategic consumer insight to help retailers (Walgreens, Jewel) maximize profitability and create an enjoyable shopping experience. This is done by optimizing pricing, promotion, shelving, and assortment according to a specific demographic area.

Career Opportunities
A Category Analyst is a highly lucrative position to many Fortune 500 companies and provides an excellent starting point to move into other positions including sales, marketing, branding, market research, category management and others. Many consumer packaged goods companies (Pepsi, Red Bull, Anheuser-Busch, Hormel Foods, etc) are coming to DePaul for the first time to hire for these positions. Summer internships are available after taking MKT 380 Science of Retailing.
Completion of all six classes leads to credits for an industry certification that gives you an advantage over other graduates in this field. These courses can also be used to complete the Sales Leadership Minor/Concentration.
